Top 5 Indoor Plants

Top 5 Indoor Plants: - By Emma Pelle – Horticulturalist

We all know that indoor plants are fantastic to have throughout the home, both for the lush green look that they offer aesthetic wise and also the health benefits such as purifying the air throughout the home.

Below I have listed the top 5 indoor plants for beginners:

Heart Leaf Philodendron – (Philodendron hederaceum)

This gorgeous indoor plant offers deep green heart shaped leaves all year round, perfect for draping down a shelf unit or hanging basket. The heart leaf philodendron can tolerate lower levels of light and is low fuss.

Monstera Siltpecana

The monstera siltpecana is another trailing plant, offering bright green leaves with a silver shimmer to each leaf. This plant grows very fast in the right conditions – bright indirect light and water only when the soil has dried out completely.

Monstera Deliciosa

The all round most popular, hardy, instant statement indoor plant that you can get. The monstera deliciosa is super popular and for good reason, the plant develops stunning splits in the foliage as the leaf matures. These plants can do very well in a bright indirect position inside and only need water as the soil dries out completely.

Fiddle Leaf Fig – Ficus Lyrata

The ever popular fiddle leaf fig botanically known as Ficus Lyrata. This plant became popular in the last 4 years and almost every home in Australia has one. Known for its super pretty looks with large lush green leaves. Another plant that requires a warm, bright spot but produces an abundance of lush foliage in return.

Peace Lilly – Spathiphyllum

The peace lilly is one of the most popular indoor plants, known for its stunning white lily flowers (not pet safe, however). This plant can tolerate the darker rooms of the house and can go up to two weeks without water. However it will dramatically advise you when it does need some love by slumping down like quiet the drama queen. Super easy to care for, give it a good soak and it bounces back overnight.
